In late 2019 I left my job with an eye toward taking some time off, a chance to reset after it became clear that I'd need a bit more than the change of scenery provided by a new role to recharge after a draining few years. When COVID hit a few months later, I abandoned any plans for a swift return to the workforce and instead focused on supporting my wife, an Emergency Department physician struggling with the long hours and emotional burden of providing COVID-era care.

Then, in the moments between grocery shopping and cooking and folding laundry, I found myself rekindling a creative drive I had almost forgotten about. I was drawn first to gardening, but then building a fence for said garden led to an enduring passion for working with wood, followed later by ceramics, sewing, and trying to make or fix nearly anything I could get my hands on. Designing and building useful objects was the closest I had ever come to making use of my undergraduate degree in Architecture, and it felt good to embrace creativity in ways that I hadn’t previously allowed myself. And then three years passed.

I've now since returned to a "real" job (and only cook, clean, and fold laundry on a part-time basis), but I'm trying to be intentional about carving out time for the creative passions I've rediscovered over the past several years. This is where I intend to share my work and document my progression (hopefully) over the next few years.
